Habanero Opens Baga’s First Microbrewery

Habanero Opens Baga’s First Microbrewery

JUNE, 2017 — Baga’s Tex Mex hot spot Habanero Goa has launched the first microbrewery in Baga, which is also the first in north Goa, to brew fresh beer from base ingredients hops and wheat, rather than with pre-mixes. The microbrewery has three new brews that are made from scratch: Susegado Dorado, Susegado Patrao and the Susegado Trigo.

In India, craft beer is associated with indigenous beers produced at various microbreweries that have mushroomed in metros across the country in the last five to six years. With the addition of this novel concept that is popular in the country’s biggest metros, Habanero is raising the bar for tourism in Goa with the help of Master brewer Aditya Challa, who had crafted the first Singapore brand of beer called Jungle Beer. With the success of its authentic TexMex menu and lively décor with local Goans, international and domestic tourists in the party hub Baga, the new microbrewery adds a new, exciting dimension to the already successful concept restaurant.

The beers are created with natural ingredients, traditional cold processes and recipes that reflect creativity. One can choose from Susegado Dorado (India Pale Ale), which is a golden ale following the recipe created on the ships en route from England to India. Strong hops character with a satisfyingly bitter finish with a 5 % alcohol by volume (abv). The second is Susegado Patrao (Vanilla Porter), a chocolate and caramel malt, perfectly complemented by vanilla notes in this modern interpretation of an old London classic. It’s a light-bodied dark beer with a 4.8 % abv. The third brew is timely since it’s mango season. Susegado Trigo (Mango Wheat Beer) is Habanero’s own take on the ever-popular wheat beer, with sharpness from the wheat malt that is mellowed with rich Alphonso mango. Perpetual tropical summer in a glass at 4.5 % abv.

One can order any of the brews at INR 165 or a pitcher at INR 600, both exempting taxes. If you’re conflicted between the three, just ask the server to a free sampler to try all three flavours. The Habanero Goa menu includes everything that goes with a fresh glass of brew that the Tex-Mex cuisine has to offer, with the likes of nachos, quesadillas, fajitas, burritos and enchiladas.

Habanero Goa is a franchise outlet owned by a brother-sister duo Rohan and Pooja Ghotage, who are from Panjim. Rohan, an electronics engineer and MBA degree holder, is a serial entrepreneur being the founder of Reliserve, which offers solutions to the international trade community for all their procurement, logistics and supply chain needs. Pooja also graduated in electronics engineering from the Vellore Institute of Technology and started her career with the multinational firm Deloitte as a consultant. She went on to head the marketing department at a start-up called Super in Bombay.
