Helicopter rides back in Goa

Helicopter rides back in Goa

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and Pawan Hans joint venture re-launched helicopter joy rides from its new location at Park Hyatt–Arossim in south Goa on Sunday.

The initial rides by the joint venture at Sinquerim in north coastal Goa had to be called off by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar within a day after local people, Opposition parties, church bodies and at least one ruling party MLA opposed the move on the ground of noise and dust pollution to the villagers in the vicinity.

Special experience

The joy rides were subsequently launched on Valentines Day, giving a special experience to tourists and Park Hyatt guests.

Fr. Conceicao from Orlim Church blessed the helicopter services in the presence of officials from the GTDC, Pawan Hans and Park Hyatt–Goa.

On day one, as many as 75 people took the joy ride from the new site, a GTDC spokesperson said on Monday.

Tourism potential

“We now have helicopter rides and hot air balloons which will serve as a huge attraction for tourists. There is a lot more to come in the months ahead and we are optimistic that all these new initiatives will go a long way in putting Goa on the map for world class adventure and leisure tourism,” said chairman of the GTDC Nilesh Cabral, MLA. “Heli-tourism will be an enthralling experience for our discerning guests and visiting tourists and we are looking forward to many more new beginnings with the GTDC,” said Shobhit Sawhney, general manager, Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa.
