Now, Wembley-style youth concert in Goa

Goa was never a part of the British India but it will be hosting a Wembley-style youth concert next year at the Dona Paula stadium in Panjim as part of events marking the India-Britain Year of Culture 2017, as decided during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Britain in November.

A report from London says senior British Labour MP Keith Vaz, who was in Goa for the Christmas holidays, broached the idea of Modi and his British counterpart David Cameron address through video the concert by the British and Indian performers with Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and the latter was “quite receptive.”

Why the event in Goa?

The report says the state has a significant number of British tourists and British diaspora who have made Goa their home in recent years.

Vaz is also planning to bring a British football team to Goa during the Year of Culture.

“Ideally it can be the Leicester City team which can hold training camps in Goa and play some games,” he said.
